Dumbbell workout tips?
I’m 5′10 and used to weigh 205. I’ve been doing extensive cardio and when I weighed myself this morning I now weigh 170. 2 weeks ago I got the bowflex select tech dumbbells and have been using the routine listed, which alternates between upper body and abs/legs. My muscle have been fatiguing at the 8-12 range.
What I’d really like is a great toned body with 6 pack abs strong muscles. When you’re doing the exercises should you do more weight for the 1st set and then decrease for the next 2? How do you know when to increase weight for the exercises?
I’ve been doing ab exercises for about 2 months now, as I burn away fat from my stomach will it start to show?
to answer your first quesiton you should be doing no more than 12 reps, the trick is heavy weight and low reps to build muscle so try somehting like this:
set 1: 10 reps
set 2: 8 reps
set 3: 6 reps
and chuck in a fourth set with 4 reps if you want to push yourself harder, this is the best way to promote muslce growth, use a weight which is realy heavy so you can barely manage the last rep on each set and leave 30 sec to a minute between sets so you dont lower your heart rate. use the same amount of weight for every set and just lower the reps so you can handle it.
and about the abs yes your abs are all down to your bodyfat and eventually burning off fat will make them more defined, it sounds like you alreayd have a decent set of abs just to much bodyfat.
